The Christmas market in Lyon will be held from November 20 to December 24 on Place Carnot in the 2nd arrondissement. This annual event showcases local products, decorations, and handmade toys, aiming to highlight the skills and talents of producers, artisans, and companies from the region and across France. The City of Lyon has arranged for chalets—small, temporary structures—to be available to charitable associations, including those focused on employment and integration. A special chalet will also be dedicated to promoting the "Made in Lyon and its surroundings" label, which supports local artisans and emphasizes the quality and origin of regional products. Several local creators will participate in the "Made in Lyon and its surroundings" chalet. These include leather accessories by Marina Vandel, illustrations by Onze Octobre, candles by Salomé Ma Muse, textile accessories by To Mo, and ceramics by Pop Lacets. The market will generally close at 8 p.m., but on Saturdays it will remain open until 10 p.m. During the Fête des Lumières, a traditional festival of light held from December 5 to December 8 in 2026, the market’s hours will change. It will close at 6 p.m. daily, with an earlier closing time of 5 p.m. on December 8. The event has seen some controversy in recent years, as a petition with thousands of signatures was launched in October 2025 to relocate the market to the Presqu'île, a peninsula in the center of Lyon. However, the market will return to its traditional location at Place Carnot for this new edition. This decision reflects the city’s efforts to maintain the market’s historical presence while continuing to support local businesses and artisans.
