The city of Vienne officially opened the Brillier promenade on Saturday, October 3, after an 18-month renovation project aimed at modernizing one of its key public spaces. The transformation involved de-surfacing more than 3,700 square meters of the promenade and planting 4,500 new plants to enhance the area’s appearance and ecological value. The project, a collaboration between Vienne Condrieu Agglomération and the city of Vienne, included the addition of dedicated bus lanes, cycle paths, improved pedestrian walkways, and redesigned terraces to make the space more accessible and inviting for visitors and residents alike. A highlight of the project is the reimagined former Casquette Square, now renamed General Rambaud Barracks Square. This area now features a new fountain with 13 water jets, which not only serves as a visual and auditory centerpiece but also plays a practical role by reusing its water for irrigation of the surrounding greenery. The city expressed gratitude to residents, local businesses, and users for their patience during the construction phase, as well as to the teams involved in bringing the project to life. Funding for the project came in part from the French state, which contributed 1,250,000 euros. Vienne is one of 244 medium-sized cities across France selected for the national program Action cœur de Ville, launched in 2018 to support urban renewal in smaller towns. The total cost of the Brillier promenade project is estimated to be over 8,490,000 euros, reflecting the scale and ambition of the work undertaken. The Action cœur de Ville program focuses on several key areas, including creating a pleasant and secure living environment, preserving local economic activity, revitalizing public services and local commerce, improving accessibility and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options, and highlighting the region’s heritage and natural landscapes. The Brillier promenade project aligns with these goals, aiming to enhance the quality of life for Vienne’s residents while supporting sustainable development and community engagement.
