Food Bank expands collection efforts

The Food Bank of Franche-Comté is ramping up its efforts this year to gather essential food items such as vegetables, fish, meat, fruits, rice, sugar, oil, flour, coffee, tea, jams, and cereals to support those in need.

Volunteers collected 185 tons last year

Last year, 2000 volunteers helped collect 185 tons of food, which equates to nearly 370,000 meals. This highlights the significant impact of community efforts in addressing food insecurity.

One in ten French people faces food insecurity

The Food Bank notes that one in ten French people lives in a situation of food insecurity. This statistic underscores the growing challenge of ensuring access to basic nutrition for a substantial portion of the population.

New groups seeking assistance

Since 2022, new profiles have appeared among those seeking assistance, including young people, students, poor workers, and even individuals in full-time permanent employment. This reflects a broader economic challenge affecting various segments of society.

Inflation impacts food budgets

This situation is attributed to the effects of inflation, which has forced many to adjust their budgets, often reducing spending on food. Rising prices have made it harder for people to afford basic necessities.

Volunteers collect donations at stores

Volunteers welcome the public at the entrance of stores, present the operation, and collect donated food products such as canned goods, pasta, oils, and breakfast items. These donations are then sorted, stored, and redistributed throughout the year to people in need through regional associations.

Volunteers can join through email

Those interested in becoming volunteers can contact the association via the email address ba250.collecte@banquealimentaire.org. This provides an opportunity for individuals to contribute directly to the fight against food insecurity.
