A 46-year-old man from Stockton, Warwickshire, has lost an incredible 32 stone (202kg) after a doctor raised concerns about his health. Mark Bailey, who is 6ft 8in tall and was nicknamed "Tiny" at age 10 due to his height and weight, reached a peak weight of 48st 9lbs (309kg) at age 39. His daily diet included around 7,500 calories, with meals like pasties and Mars bars for breakfast, McDonald's lunches, kebabs for dinner, and significant beer consumption. A diagnosis of a heart murmur in October 2021 served as a wake-up call, prompting him to take action to be there for his wife, Nicola, and their children. He turned down weight loss medication and surgery, instead focusing on lifestyle changes, and lost 28st (177kg) over four years before undergoing open-heart surgery in October 2025. After the procedure, he lost an additional 4st (25kg) and recently completed a 5km challenge for the Rugby Cardiac Rehabilitation team. Mark Bailey has faced several health issues over the years, including Graves’ disease at age 34, sore knees, gallbladder problems, and shoulder pain. He tried various weight loss methods, such as the carnivore diet and Slimming World, with some success. After being told he needed open-heart surgery due to a worsening heart condition, he opted for lifestyle changes instead of bariatric surgery or weight-loss injections. By cutting out snacks like biscuits and chocolate bars and starting to go to the gym twice a week, he lost 18st (114kg) in two years. However, he still felt mentally and emotionally unwell due to breathlessness and chest discomfort. A routine scan in September 2025 confirmed that his heart valve had worsened, leading to a seven-hour open-heart surgery at University Hospital Coventry on October 15. He was discharged after eight days and began a supervised eight-week cardiac rehabilitation program in Rugby, which included 16 sessions of "very steady" exercise. To show his gratitude, he completed a 5km obstacle race in September. Now weighing 16st 11lbs (106kg), he wears size large clothing and 38-inch waist trousers, and has even lost two shoe sizes. Some have started calling him "Biggie" instead of his original nickname, "Tiny," but he says the name still fits his height. Mark Bailey now follows a healthier routine, starting his day with a shot of turmeric, ginger, cayenne pepper, and apple cider vinegar before a gym session. His meals include high-protein foods, fresh fruit, vegetables, and plenty of water. He credits his wife, Nicola, for being his "rock" and is grateful he can now enjoy time with his 18-month-old granddaughter, Ellena. He enjoys going to the gym or running with his wife and has made significant improvements to his health, giving himself the best chance for the future and ensuring he is around for his family.
