The InnoTrans fair, a major international trade show for rail and transportation technology, opened in Berlin recently. Alongside the event, the eleventh edition of the global railway market study by Bain&Cie was released. The report predicts continued growth in the railway sector up to 2030, highlighting the industry's ongoing importance in global transportation.
According to Martin Sion, president of the European Union of industrialists, Unife, and general director of Alstom, the global railway market is expected to grow by 3.2 percent each year. This growth would lead to a market value of 221 billion euros between 2023 and 2025, increasing further to 266.8 billion euros from 2029 to 2031. These projections underscore the increasing demand for rail infrastructure and technology worldwide.
Despite the positive outlook, the study notes that European companies have only "limited access" to the global railway market. Currently, they have access to 56 percent of the global market, down from 59 percent in the previous study. This slight decrease suggests that European firms face growing competition and challenges in expanding their presence internationally.
The findings of the study emphasize the need for European companies to enhance their global competitiveness. As the railway sector continues to grow, maintaining and improving access to international markets will be crucial for European firms to sustain their leadership and influence in the industry.
