Apple has expanded its iCloud+ subscription by including access to Apple TV and Apple Arcade at no extra cost for users in more than 100 countries. This change, which began this month, includes several French-speaking regions across North Africa, the Indian Ocean, and beyond. Approximately twenty French-speaking territories are now affected, such as Benin, Cameroon, Madagascar, and Morocco. These countries now get Apple TV and Apple Arcade access as part of the basic 50 GB iCloud+ plan, which typically includes online storage and privacy tools like email masking and private relay.
For users in these regions, the entry-level iCloud+ subscription now includes access to Apple TV’s streaming catalog and over 200 Apple Arcade games. Family Sharing allows this access to be shared with up to five other household members. Existing users who had separately subscribed to Apple TV or Apple Arcade will automatically transition to the included access without losing their game progress. These services are no longer available for individual purchase by new customers in these markets. Apple One, a more expensive bundle that grouped multiple services, is also no longer offered to new subscribers in these areas, although current Apple One users are not affected.
In addition to Apple TV and Apple Arcade, some of these countries are now getting access to Apple Music Select, which offers ad-free music channels. This update is also accompanied by an expansion of Apple TV, now available in 59 additional countries, bringing the total to 170. However, the content catalog is mostly in English, with limited local productions for the newly added markets.
Apple TV has evolved significantly since its launch, becoming more open (though still not available on Android) and more expensive. Despite these changes, it still faces challenges in justifying a fixed monthly subscription, as the catalog additions are modest compared to competitors. However, for occasional use or through partnerships like Canal+, Apple TV offers high-quality content that is worth watching, especially since it provides the best visual quality in the industry.
