Bridge reopens for traffic

Starting this Friday, October 30, residents of Toulouse will once again be able to circulate on the Poudrerie Bridge after five months of construction. The bridge connects Ramier Island to the Empalot neighborhood, and motorists will be able to use it in the late afternoon, linking the Loge Path on Ramier Island to the Lattre de Tassigny Avenue in Empalot.

Historical bridge undergoes major work

The Poudrerie Bridge, a structure dating from the end of the 19th century that underwent reconstruction in 1930, has been "reconfigured." The City of Toulouse undertook work to "secure and allow for a more peaceful coexistence between different modes of transport."

Major repairs and environmental care

This included the repair or replacement of metal parts degraded by corrosion, the replacement of deteriorated rivets, the complete removal of old paint under confinement to preserve the environment, the application of a new anticorrosion protection system, the restoration of brick masonry piers, and the reconstruction of the deck and the remodeling of the sidewalks.

Improved pedestrian and cyclist access

Starting this Friday, pedestrians will be able to enjoy a single widened sidewalk, instead of two on either side of the bridge, "with enhanced accessibility, for safer and more comfortable movement," the City stated. In addition, cyclists have a dedicated lane on the road in both directions.

Restrictions remain for motor vehicles

However, the bridge remains one-way for motor vehicles. These vehicles can still reach Ramier Island using the infrastructure, but it is now limited to 20 km/h. The bridge remains closed to vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes.
