From October 16 to 18, the Cinémathèque de Toulouse and Claude Sicre will host the 27th edition of Peuples et Musiques au Cinéma, an event that explores popular cultures from various regions around the world. This year's edition will feature a range of activities, including films, discussions, and interactive events, over the course of three days. The event highlights diverse musical traditions and cultural expressions from places such as Madagascar, the Northeast of Brazil, the Breton region of France, the blues traditions of Mississippi, and the gamelan music of Bali. These selections aim to celebrate the richness of global cultures through the lens of cinema and music. The festival's program is designed to offer both entertainment and education, with a particular emphasis on showcasing the voices and stories of different communities. This year, the event has a special focus on women's contributions to music and culture, as highlighted by the new initiative Alerte aux femmes !!!!!. This initiative is part of a broader effort to bring attention to the often-overlooked roles of women in musical traditions and to promote their visibility in the cultural landscape. One of the standout events under this initiative is the screening of songs by women from Madagascar in the film Nosy Hira by Luc Bongrand, which will be shown on Saturday and Sunday. The film explores the island's unique musical heritage and the role of women within it. This screening is part of a larger effort to highlight the diversity and depth of female musical expression across different cultures, offering festival attendees a chance to experience these voices firsthand. The Peuples et Musiques au Cinéma festival continues to be a significant platform for cultural exchange and understanding. By bringing together films, discussions, and musical performances, it creates a space for audiences to engage with the world's diverse traditions and stories. The event not only celebrates the richness of global music and cinema but also encourages a deeper appreciation of the cultural narratives that shape our world.
