Festival opens in Toulouse

The 27th edition of the Peuples et Musiques au Cinéma Festival has started at the Cinémathèque in Toulouse, a city known for its pink-hued buildings. The festival has become an essential event for those interested in the musical traditions of different communities, presented through cinema.

Cinema and music blend

The festival showcases both fictional and documentary films, ranging from recent releases to older works, aimed at a broad audience. These films highlight the importance of musical traditions and are accompanied by live performances, exhibitions, discussions, and concerts throughout the city.

Diverse cultural themes

This year’s festival explores a wide range of popular cultures, including those from Madagascar, northeastern Brazil, Breton heritage, the blues of Mississippi, and the gamelan music of Bali. These themes reflect the festival's commitment to celebrating global musical diversity.

Special initiative highlights women's music

A notable feature of this year's festival is the "Alert to Women!!!" initiative by Claude Sicre. This project focuses on the music of women from Madagascar, specifically from Nosy Hira, and includes a film by Luc Bongrand that will be shown on Saturday and Sunday.
