Limousine cattle return to event

Limousine cattle made a comeback at the Or Rouge days in Limoges, held from October 17 to 19, after being absent in 2025 due to an animal health issue. This year, the event celebrated cattle breeding with live presentations and auctions.

Event revised due to disease

In 2025, bovine nodular dermatosis, a skin disease affecting cattle, forced organizers to revise their plans. As a result, the usual in-person cattle presentations were replaced with video demonstrations during the event.

Auction sees strong participation

On Saturday, 55 breeding animals were sold at auction in the afternoon, showing strong interest from buyers. The event continued with additional competitions and activities over the following days.

Young butchers compete for title

For the first time, nine young butchers participated in a competition to win the Master Or Rouge title. They prepared and showcased various cuts of beef and lamb, demonstrating their skills in deboning and trimming.

Competition results announced

In the late afternoon, the first prize was awarded to Breton butcher Charly Birot. Corrézien Jules Descamps from Brive took second place, highlighting the high level of competition among the participants.

Focus on regional cattle breeding

On Monday morning, a round table discussion focused on cattle breeding in the Massif Central region. The event brought together breeders, researchers, and local authorities to discuss joint projects aimed at supporting the industry and securing its future.

Auction features new livestock

The event concluded with an auction of 65 heifers and beef cows, including three Aubrac cows for sale for the first time. Despite economic challenges, several animals sold for more than 10,000 euros, indicating continued demand.
