Amazon has introduced the Blink Solaris 2K+, a new version of its connected wireless Blink Outdoor 2K+ surveillance camera, in June. Unlike the standard Blink Outdoor 2K+ model, which runs on AA batteries, the Blink Solaris 2K+ is equipped with a rechargeable battery powered by solar energy. This new model offers greater convenience and has seen a significant price drop. Initially priced at 119.99 euros, the Blink Solaris 2K+ is now available on Amazon at a promotional price of 47.99 euros. The camera features a compact solar panel that can be easily clipped on. The solar panel measures 84 x 83 x 76 mm and is barely wider than the camera itself, which measures 70 x 70 x 41 mm. According to Amazon, which relies on laboratory tests, 45 minutes of direct sunlight per day are sufficient to maintain the battery charge level, although this will depend on the location, season, or exposure to sunlight. The charge level can be monitored directly from the Blink app. The Blink Solaris 2K+ is certified IP65, making it resistant to rain and dust. It includes a basic synchronization module, which allows connecting up to 10 Blink devices to create a complete surveillance system. However, neither this module nor the camera has a storage space or a slot for a microSD card. The Sync Module 2 integrates a USB port on which a USB key can be plugged in. Once properly installed, the Blink Solaris 2K+ offers a 2K video resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). The camera has a field of view of 115° x 62° x 135°, ensuring it does not miss much in front of an entrance door. At night, the video remains in color as long as a light source is nearby, then switches to black and white infrared in total darkness. The camera includes several features such as motion detection with notification sending, bidirectional audio, and the ability to customize detection zones or privacy zones from the Blink app. However, to enjoy intelligent AI detection of people, vehicles, and animals, as well as a video history and cloud storage, a Blink subscription is required, starting at 3 euros per month for a device. Since Blink belongs to Amazon, the Solaris 2K+ can work with devices compatible with Alexa. Users can ask the assistant to display the camera video stream on an Echo Show screen and set up routines or automations related to the camera.
