Young woman walks long distance

Clara, a 19-year-old resident, was waiting for her bus at Place de Wattwiller stop, Cité Ampère, on Tuesday, October 20, around 11:30 a.m. She noted that the bus on line 30 would pass that morning but was uncertain about her return journey that evening.

Unaware of route change

The previous day, she had taken the bus when the driver announced that the terminus for line 30 had been moved from the usual "Ampère" stop to the Aristide Briand stop, four stops further. Clara was unaware of this change and had to walk approximately 1.6 kilometers with heavy shopping bags, taking more than twenty minutes to reach home.

Attack on bus driver prompts action

The decision to adjust routes was made by the Compagnie des transports strasbourgeois (CTS) following an attack on Sunday evening on one of their bus drivers at the Shakespeare stop on line C5 in the Hautepierre neighborhood. A video of the incident, which circulated on social media, showed several people physically attacking the driver, forcing him out of the bus, and setting off fireworks inside.

Union condemns violence

The union Unsa CTS condemned the acts of violence, and the CTS filed a complaint. In response, the transport network implemented "security deviations" starting at 5 p.m. for buses and halted all tram line traffic from 8 p.m. The CTS stated these measures would remain in place "until further notice."
