Congress of science teachers in Corsica

From October 27 to 29, the cultural center l’Alb’Oru in Bastia will host the National Congress of Physics and Chemistry Teachers, an event taking place for the first time in Corsica. This congress is organized by the UdPPC, the Union of Physics and Chemistry Teachers, which is celebrating 120 years of existence.

UdPPC's role in education

The UdPPC regularly provides opinions on the evolution of the content and conditions of teaching physical and chemical sciences at the national and regional levels. It intervenes on these topics with the ministry, the general and regional inspectorates, and expert groups, initiating and analyzing consultations or detailed surveys to form an opinion based on the expressions of its members.

Events and collaborations

The UdPPC organizes or participates in a large number of events at both the national and regional levels in collaboration with institutions, associations, and companies. It organizes a congress each year in a different academic section with the collaboration of the University and local communities.

Corsican leadership and support

In Corsica, the president of the UdPPC is Véronique Maroselli, a Physics and Chemistry teacher at the Giocante High School in Casabianca, Bastia. This year, it is the Corsican section that is organizing the national congress, the 73rd edition. The congress has received support from the city of Bastia, the Bastia Agglomeration Community, the Corsican Collectivity, the Rectorate, and more broadly the Ministry of National Education.

Program highlights

The congress inauguration will take place on Tuesday, October 27 at 2:30 p.m. at l’Alb’Oru and will include two free public conferences, which require mandatory registration. The event will highlight sciences and technologies and their applications on the territory, with topics such as "Nanoparticles: from fantasy to reality," "The hidden physics of plants," and "Introducing research into the classroom."

Scientific and cultural visits

Participants will have the opportunity to visit a hydrogen production site, a vineyard that emphasizes chemistry, a data center partially powered by renewable energy, and various tourist sites in the region. Other topics on which Corsica is involved and particularly concerned will be highlighted, such as the study of forest fires, energy and its storage, and marine biodiversity.

Activities and events

During these three days, there will be plenary conferences, scientific conferences and workshops, technical and/or cultural visits, and meetings with exhibitors specializing in educational and scientific equipment and publishers. A traditional gala dinner will highlight Corsican culinary specialties.

Special performances

On Tuesday, October 27, from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., there will be a conference-performance by Jean-Michel Courty and Edouard Kierlik in the presence of Carlo Cerato, artist: "When Physics Does Circus." On Thursday, October 29, from 9:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., there will be a conference by Virginie D'Auria: "Women and Quantum."
