The Wiko brand, once popular in France, has shifted its focus to the Chinese market after ceasing operations in its home country. Recently, the company introduced the Hi MateBook 14, a new laptop designed to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air in Asia. This device features a unique design, including a custom chassis and a keyboard with rounded keys, reminiscent of older wireless keyboards. It is part of Wiko’s efforts to reposition itself in the competitive laptop market, now under the ownership of the Chinese manufacturer Tinno, which has close ties to Huawei.
The Hi MateBook 14 includes a 14.2-inch 2.8K OLED display that operates at 120 Hz, offering smooth visuals for tasks like video editing or gaming. Priced at around 1,100 euros at the Chinese retailer JD.com, the laptop is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, the same one used in the Honor MagicBook 16 earlier this year. While this processor is known for its energy efficiency, it has limitations in performance, particularly when it comes to graphics processing, as its integrated GPU includes only four Xe3 cores.
Despite these limitations, the Hi MateBook 14 offers high-end specifications for its price. It includes 24 GB of RAM, configured in dual channels for improved performance, and 1 TB of SSD storage, which is rare for laptops at this price point in 2026. The laptop is built on a thin aluminum chassis measuring 14.5 mm in thickness and weighs 1.33 kg, making it relatively portable. Connectivity options are extensive, including two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.1 output, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The device also features a 70 Wh battery, which is claimed to provide up to 17 hours of local video playback.
The Hi MateBook 14 is currently available in China but is unlikely to reach the French market anytime soon. Consumers in France who are interested in the device would have to rely on importing it, which involves legal and logistical challenges. As of now, the laptop remains a niche product, primarily catering to the Chinese market, where Wiko has chosen to focus its efforts.
