Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 Pro, a new smart camera designed for home security and monitoring. The device features two lenses side by side, both facing the same direction. One lens is an ultra-wide-angle 4K sensor with 8 megapixels and a 127° field of view, while the other is a 3K sensor with 5 megapixels and an optical zoom of x6. Together, these lenses provide a hybrid zoom capability up to x9, allowing users to zoom in on details without significant loss of quality. The camera also includes dual motorization, enabling it to rotate 360° horizontally and 180° vertically. It connects via Wi-Fi 6 and includes a USB-C port for power. For storage, it supports local options through a microSD card (16 to 256 GB) and cloud storage with a monthly subscription starting at 3.49 €. The Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 Pro has a white plastic casing with a cylindrical base and a spherical top that houses the lenses. It includes a non-slip base and a mounting kit for installation on walls or ceilings. The camera has a reset button, a speaker, and a microphone, but it does not include a siren for deterring intruders. It is compatible with Xiaomi's ecosystem of smart devices and is controlled through the Xiaomi Home app, available for both iOS and Android. The Xiaomi Home app provides a live video feed from the camera, allowing users to adjust the camera's direction, zoom, record video, or take photos. Additional features include two-way audio communication, image quality adjustments, and event detection filters, such as identifying people, animals, or unusual noises. The app uses artificial intelligence to detect babies' cries, unusual sounds, people, and animals, with automatic tracking and zoom capabilities. However, if automatic zoom is enabled, users cannot manually zoom during live streaming. During testing, the camera successfully detected motion up to 9 meters away and identified people or animals at similar distances. Its night vision mode performed well but had some instability when switching between day and night vision. The image quality in night mode was less detailed compared to the Eufy Indoor Cam S350, a competing product. The hybrid x9 zoom feature, while offering a high level of zoom, resulted in some overexposure and loss of detail. The camera’s microphone was effective up to 6 meters, and the speaker provided clear sound up to 3 meters. The two-way audio feature could be activated by a hand gesture but required exiting the app to end the call. The AI was effective in detecting humans and animals, similar to the Eufy Indoor Cam S350, but the latter had a slightly better image quality with its primary sensor. Overall, the Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 Pro offers a competitive price-to-performance ratio, though some software improvements could enhance the user experience.
