French players compete in PQ2 tournament

Twenty-two French players are participating in the PQ2 of the European Cards tournament, which is being held at four different sites in Spain. After eighteen holes, Maxime Legros has achieved the best start, placing him in fifth position at Huelva. Romain Wattel is in seventh place at Gérone, and Alexis Leray is in eighth place at Albacete. Seventy-nine places are available for qualification for the final of the Cards, scheduled in Tarragona from November 6 to 11.

Maxime Legros aims for European Tour status

Maxime Legros, who is third in the Order of Merit of the Alps Tour 2026 and already "qualified" on the HotelPlanner Tour 2027, is trying to improve his status by possibly securing a playing right on the European Tour. His initial score of 66 (-5) places him in fifth position at Huelva, where the top 20 after the fourth round on Sunday will qualify for the final in Tarragona. Englishman Callum Tarren leads with an impressive score of 63 (-8).

Performance at Huelva site

At Huelva, Antoine Pouguet is in 23rd place at -3 (68), ahead of Martin Farfal (33rd at -2) and Mathieu Decottignies-Lafon (43rd at -1). Grégory Bourdy, Gary Stal, and Jeong Weon Ko are in danger, beyond the 50th place.

Romain Wattel's position at Gérone

Romain Wattel is in seventh place at Gérone, having scored -4 (66), three strokes behind the two leaders, Australian Anthony Quayle and amateur Argentine Mateo Pulcini. Twenty places are up for grabs for qualification at this site. Paul Beauvy, who had won the French session of the PQ1 at Vaudreuil, is 44th in the total par (70) with Louis Bonte, while Pierre Pineau is 54th at +1.

Alexis Leray's performance at Albacete

At Albacete, Alexis Leray starts his week perfectly with a solid 8th place at -5 (66) ahead of Bastien Amat and Quentin Debove (12th at -4). Englishman George Toone leads at -8 (63). Nineteen places are up for grabs on this site. Alexandre Vandermoten is 25th at -3 (68), remaining in contention, as well as Clément Sordet and Robin Sciot-Siegrist, 33rd at -2.

French players at Almeria site

Only two French players are entered at Almeria after the withdrawal of Félix Mory. Ignacio Arcaya is in contention with his 11th place at -5 (67), while Paul Franquet managed only a 74 (+2). Englishman Jack Yule achieved an excellent 62 (-10) at Almeria, with the top 20 qualifying. In case of a tie, a play-off will decide the different players concerned.

LIV Golf players in PQ2 events

Five players from LIV Golf, including three members, are present in these PQ2 events. Englishman Ben Schmidt (at Albacete) and Mexican Luis Carrera (at Huelva), both substitutes this year, appear in 12th place ahead of American Michael La Sasso (29th at Almeria). Spaniard Luis Masaveu and Englishman Sam Horsfield are already in difficulty, respectively at Albacete and at Huelva (50th).
