Christiane Commeau's family and the association Justice for Christiane are holding an annual white march in Chassieu on Saturday, October 24, to mark 22 years since her disappearance. The march begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Chassieu boules court and will proceed to Rue des Charpennes, where Commeau lived. The route is chosen to highlight the places connected to her life and the circumstances of her disappearance.Timeline of the disappearance
Christiane Commeau, then 55 years old, was kidnapped in the garage of her building on October 22, 2004, after returning home from shopping. Her phone and handbag were later found in her locked apartment, and her body was discovered nearly four months later on February 18, 2005, in a wooded area of Niévroz, in the Ain, near Montluel.Cause of death and investigation
Forensic analysis determined that Commeau was killed by two shots to the head with a rifle. The case was reassigned to the unit for unsolved cases in 2021, and that same year, one of her grandchildren, Kathleen, founded the association Justice for Christiane to keep the case in the public eye and prevent it from being closed due to legal time limits.Recent developments in the case
In 2022, the investigation was resumed by the national unit dedicated to unsolved cases, based in Nanterre. The family and the association continue to hold the annual white march to maintain public awareness and encourage any potential witnesses to come forward. The event will take place this Saturday, October 24, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Chassieu boules court.
