Grenoble Alpes Métropole hosts 100+ events from November 1–30 to promote repair, reuse, and second-hand shopping, aiming to reduce waste and consumption.
Local initiative promotes sustainable habits
From November 1 to November 30, Grenoble Alpes Métropole is organizing around 100 events aimed at encouraging repair, reuse, and second-hand shopping. These activities include workshops, drop-off points, and collection services, offering residents practical ways to reduce waste. The program, announced on October 27, covers the entire Grenoble metropolitan area and involves local governments, community groups, and organizations focused on reuse.Workshops focus on practical skills
The first week of November features a variety of hands-on workshops. On November 3, a session on reusable diapers is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. at the Belledonne clinic. The following day, a composting and zero-waste gardening workshop begins at 10 a.m. at the Romain-Rolland neighborhood house. Other events include a sewing workshop for reusable period protection on November 7 and an introduction to vermicomposting at La Bifurk on November 10. Details about each event are listed in the waste reduction workshop agenda.Waste reduction faces significant challenges
The initiative addresses a pressing environmental issue: in 2025, the metropolitan area recorded an average of 414 kilograms of waste per person, totaling nearly 200,000 tons. Repairing items, reusing clothing, or passing on functional furniture can prevent the need for new purchases. However, the cost savings vary depending on the item, its condition, and the repair costs involved.Drop-off points allow for easy donations
Residents can donate usable items at Pôle R, located at 435 avenue des Jeux-Olympiques in Grenoble. The center accepts furniture, toys, bicycles, books, dishes, textiles, and household appliances in working condition. Items are sorted or refurbished before being sent to solidarity shops. The drop-off is open on specific days and times, with holidays excluded. Broken, dirty, or hazardous items are not accepted.Free collection service available for bulky items
For residents unable to transport large items, Grenoble Alpes Métropole offers a free home collection service, available after registration. A public map shows locations where people can donate, exchange, or buy second-hand goods. These options are open to all, regardless of participation in the November workshops. The events and services are spread across multiple communes and locations in the metropolitan area.
