American manufacturer Trek has introduced a new e-bike helmet called the Charge WaveCel, as announced in a recent press release. This helmet is certified under the NTA-8776 standard, a Dutch certification specifically designed for speedbikes—electric bikes that can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h (about 28 mph). The Charge WaveCel is aimed at users of both e-bikes and speedbikes, offering enhanced safety and convenience features. At the core of the helmet is Trek’s proprietary WaveCel technology, a flexible honeycomb structure engineered to absorb both linear impacts and rotational energy. This innovation is designed to reduce the risk of brain concussion by distributing impact forces more effectively. The helmet also includes a BOA system, allowing for one-handed adjustment, and a magnetic Fidlock buckle that ensures a secure fit. Additionally, a magnetic Blendr mount is included, enabling users to attach compatible lights or cameras easily. The Charge WaveCel comes with a built-in Flare light that attaches magnetically to the back of the helmet. This light can be removed for recharging, which takes just 90 minutes. The Flare light is said to provide visibility up to 400 meters during the day and offers four different flashing modes. According to Trek, the light can operate for up to ten hours in its night flashing mode, making it ideal for low-light conditions. Priced at 169.99 euros, the Charge WaveCel is available in three sizes and two colors. Its weight ranges from 340 to 420 grams, depending on the head size, and it is 50 grams lighter than the previous model. Trek also claims that the new helmet offers 150% more ventilation than its predecessor, enhancing comfort during long rides. The Charge WaveCel represents an upgrade in both safety and user experience for e-bike and speedbike enthusiasts.
