Siri now plays Spotify without needing to name it

With the release of iOS 27, users can ask Siri to play music on Spotify without specifying the service each time. This change removes a previous requirement that users had to include "on Spotify" in their requests, which was necessary to prevent Siri from defaulting to Apple Music.

Siri learns user preferences for music apps

Siri can now remember the music app a user prefers and automatically directs requests to that app. If the preferred app is Spotify, users can simply state what they want to hear, and Siri will handle the rest, whether it's a song, album, podcast, or audiobook.

New Siri features include vague requests and AI tools

The updated Siri can interpret more general requests, such as "music for working out," and also interact with Spotify's home systems like its virtual DJ. It can search through a user’s library, suggest songs, or generate playlists using artificial intelligence.

iOS 27 features are limited to specific users

These new Siri features are only available to users with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, running iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence activated. However, this version of Siri AI is not available in the European Union due to regulatory restrictions.

EU regulations block Siri AI from being used there

Apple’s Siri AI is unavailable in the EU because of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires tech companies to allow access to personal data and third-party apps for rival services. Apple proposed a secure intermediary solution, but the European Commission rejected it.

EU restrictions affect Apple's new HomeView product

The absence of Siri AI in the EU has led to the non-commercialization of Apple’s new HomeView feature within the region. Apple hopes that European users’ frustration with these limitations may eventually influence their lawmakers to reconsider the regulations.
