MISCHA releases new EP

MISCHA, a finalist of the show Nouvelle École, has released an EP titled ZONE and is performing at La Boule Noire in Paris. The rapper considers participating in the show not as a defining aspect of his music but as a significant boost in visibility.

Focus on music production

To build his career after the show, MISCHA is focusing on music production. One month ago, the final of Nouvelle École was won by Typhee. However, another finalist, MISCHA, has drawn considerable attention.

Early career and upcoming performance

At just 19 years old, the rapper from Noisy-le-Sec aims to capitalize on this opportunity. On Monday, October 12, the artist will perform at La Boule Noire in Paris, shortly after the release of ZONE, a project offering a new insight into his artistic universe.

Behind-the-scenes journey

20 Minutes followed him for a day, from clip filming to the concert, to explore the behind-the-scenes of his post-Nouvelle École journey. From open-mics to solo performances, the show has been highlighting emerging rappers and rappers for five seasons.

Post-show challenges

While the exposure is certain when episodes air, the period after the show can be more challenging. For MISCHA, everything was planned: the competition was meant to provide visibility, and the rest would be handled in the studio and on stage.

Personal introduction and musical roots

When asked how he would introduce himself to someone who does not know him, MISCHA responds directly: "I make music, simply, with my zinc." Before sharing the stage with his cousin, their story began in a basement.

Collaboration and early efforts

WALLE, now a beatmaker, was creating beats on his own, while MISCHA was writing his first lyrics. "We have seen each other five to seven times a week for five years to make music. We started in his basement to record. At that time, I wasn't a sound engineer, it was tough," explains the beatmaker.

Open-mics as a stepping stone

To familiarize himself with the stage, MISCHA chose the demanding exercise of open-mics, which allowed him to be noticed for this fifth season of Nouvelle École. The show as a stepping stone, not an label.

Philosophy and performance

"Participating in Nouvelle École does not define my music, but it's a beautiful boost in visibility," he told the media Mosaïque before the show's broadcast. A philosophy he seems to have maintained since the final.

Sensuality and performance

He aims to avoid labels and also distance himself from the buzz. Each season has its moments that provoke reactions on social media, and this year it was his performance with Bamby during the featuring challenge that sparked much discussion.

Professional approach to performance

During their cover of Jalouse, the duo played on sensuality, prompting many reactions on social media. "By putting me in a duo with her, we wanted to test me. I thought, let's go," explains the rapper.

Artistic framework and genre

For him, the performance was within a clear framework: "It was for a show, for a show: it's professional." He explains he approached the performance through the codes of shatta and dancehall, where sensuality plays an important role.

Sustaining visibility

Behind the boost in visibility, one question remains: how to last? "How do you make something that represents you while you have been exposed to millions of people?" summarizes MISCHA.

Studio work and new resources

Throughout the day with him, this question often came up. Retreating into the studio has been his strategy to answer: "It was necessary to prepare for after, so to release tracks quickly," he explains.

Collaboration and visual identity

With these six tracks in his new EP, the rapper continues the work with WALLE, while benefiting from new resources: "Today, what has changed is that we are better supported," he explains. This identity is also built through image, through the clips.

Cinema influence and visual goals

"Honestly, I love cinema and in my clips, I love interpreting my music," testifies MISCHA. Although the clip challenge was not part of this fifth season, he explains: "The clip of ZONE MILITAIRE or Logos Brodés is exactly what I would have wanted to show in Nouvelle École."
