Metro has uncovered a website that appears to host explicit videos of women, some of whom seem to be underage, filmed in public without their consent. The footage is available to the public for a fee of $50, granting access to all 400 videos the site claims to host. Many of the individuals in the videos are shown wearing shorts or leggings, and the site has an associated Telegram channel with over 1,600 subscribers. The content raises serious concerns about privacy, consent, and the exploitation of individuals, particularly minors. Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has confirmed it is "actively reviewing" the website following Metro's findings. They emphasized that both upskirting — the act of secretly taking photographs or videos of a person’s private areas — and sharing such content online are illegal under UK law. Ofcom has passed the evidence to its online safety team, which is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Online Safety Act. This legislation requires websites to implement strong reporting mechanisms, detect and remove illegal content such as child sexual abuse material, and verify the age of users. Under the Online Safety Act, platforms must assess the risk of harmful content being shared on their services and take proactive steps to prevent it. If companies fail to meet these requirements, Ofcom said it would take enforcement action. Since the Act was introduced 18 months ago, £6 million in fines has been issued to 10 adult websites for non-compliance. For example, one site that used nudification technology — which can alter images to remove clothing — was fined £50,000 for not properly implementing age verification measures. Detective Superintendent Dan Thompson, who leads the Metropolitan Police’s Violence Against Women and Girls unit, stated that women in London should feel safe and not have to fear such intrusive behavior. He encouraged anyone affected by this or similar incidents to report it to the police. Although this particular case has not been reported to the Met, the potential impact on victims’ well-being is acknowledged. Authorities continue to monitor and address such issues to ensure public safety and uphold legal standards.
