Amazfit has introduced the T-Rex Dual Solar, a sports watch designed for outdoor enthusiasts who may not always have access to traditional power sources. The device features solar charging technology and a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen. It is intended for users who spend extended periods outdoors, offering features such as a red/white LED flashlight, a speaker, and a microphone for calls and voice assistance. While the watch provides over 40 hours of battery life in GPS tracking mode, its battery capacity (660 mAh) is slightly smaller than the 870 mAh battery in the previous T-Rex Ultra 2 model, which offered up to 50 hours of GPS tracking. The T-Rex Dual Solar includes solar panels on both the front and back of the watch. However, when worn on the wrist, the panels cannot capture sunlight. To charge the watch, users must remove it and attach it to a backpack or tent with the back panel facing outward. According to early test results, under normal use, the battery lasts 25 days. Three hours of front-side charging can extend battery life by up to five days, while three hours of back-side charging can extend it to 42 days. The watch uses a new charging method with two metal connection points and a magnetic charging adapter. It comes with a high-quality leather strap that can be attached to a backpack or keys. The adapter includes a hole for a standard USB-C cable. The T-Rex Dual Solar has a 51.4 mm diameter case, is 16.9 mm thick, and weighs 69 grams without the strap. It is built with a grade 5 titanium bezel, a sapphire glass screen, and a 10 ATM waterproof rating, allowing it to be used in water up to 50 meters deep. The watch includes color maps and full navigation features, such as ski trail maps, golf courses, step-by-step navigation, and waypoints. It supports offline voice commands through the Zepp Flow feature and includes Zepp Coach for personalized running or cardio programs. It can track a variety of activities, including golf, skiing, and neighborhood walks. The T-Rex Dual Solar has limited third-party app support and does not offer native support for subscription-based music services. It also has limited options for customizing watch faces, as complications cannot be changed. The Zepp app provides features like personalized training, AI coaching, sleep analysis, and health and fitness tracking. However, the watch's larger size may affect the accuracy of sleep tracking, as movement during the night can influence the data collected. The T-Rex Dual Solar targets a niche market of users who need solar charging for long outdoor trips. While some may prefer a larger display over solar charging, the lower battery capacity compared to the T-Rex Ultra 2 suggests the watch is aimed at a specific group of users.
