Boxer Anthony Joshua has signed a contract worth 10 million pounds sterling for a four-part Netflix documentary that will explore the major events of his career. The series will cover both his successes and challenges, including his arrest for cannabis possession in 2011 and a car accident in Nigeria in December 2020 that led to the deaths of two of his friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. It will also look back at his difficult early years, including a period of two weeks in temporary custody. The documentary will end with his upcoming fight against Tyson Fury, which has been called "the greatest rivalry in British boxing." It is set to air in the spring. According to some sources, the documentary will include emotional scenes depicting the car accident that happened last year. The series has been in production for some time, and a source said: "AJ is an extremely astute businessman; he has been documenting his career discreetly for more than ten years. Note that it is not simply a flattering portrait of AJ, boxing legend and global icon." The documentary will feature behind-the-scenes footage showing Joshua in his Madison Square Garden dressing room after he lost to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019. The source added: "It is heartbreaking, but they will appear in the documentary. AJ wanted it absolutely. He wanted the story to be raw and authentic. The result is an incredibly powerful and moving television documentary. The fight against Tyson will be the narrative thread, which will also offer genuine moments of lightness and brilliance." The documentary will be produced by SBX, the production company that originally created the shows Billy Monger: The Race Is On (for Comic Relief on BBC1) and Troy Deeney: Where's My History? (on Channel 4). Several streaming platforms have made offers for the program, with the initial project consisting of airing a retrospective of Joshua's career. However, Netflix reportedly put in a strong effort to secure the series, convinced that it will achieve global success. On Wednesday, fans saw Joshua, 36, and Tyson, 38, face off in London ahead of their eventful fight at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, scheduled for Friday, December 11. Joshua thus joins personalities such as David Beckham, Taylor Swift, Gordon Ramsay, Robbie Williams, and Kylie Minogue in appearing in a Netflix series.
