Strategy revision under way

Air Mauritius is updating its business strategy, with CEO Andre Viljoen presenting a plan called 10 Future-Fit Game Changer Strategies. This plan focuses on strengthening the company's operations and addressing challenges in its flight network and overall management.

Aircraft order reconsidered

The airline is reassessing its order for three Airbus A350-900 aircraft, originally signed in 2023. Instead, it is now considering acquiring up to five single-aisle aircraft. This shift comes after an operational audit and future projections by Seabury Aviation Partners.

Network adjustments planned

The new strategy includes modifying the airline’s flight routes to improve profitability. This will involve evaluating the introduction of single-aisle aircraft such as the A321LR and Boeing 737 MAX. These changes are meant to better align with current business goals.

Aircraft reconfiguration explored

One of Air Mauritius’s ATR 72-500 planes may be modified to handle cargo and medical evacuation services to Rodrigues. The airline currently operates four ATR aircraft, three A330 models, and four A350-900 aircraft.

Focus on cost control

Fuel costs are a major concern in the new strategy. Air Mauritius plans to create a "fuel war room" to manage consumption more effectively. This will include optimizing flight planning, reducing onboard weight, and improving the use of auxiliary power units and fuel tankering.

Service improvements underway

The airline is also working on revising its onboard service to enhance the passenger experience. This is part of a broader effort to modernize operations and align with the goals of the new strategic plan.
