Maldivian seeks new aircraft for its fleet

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is exploring the addition of the Airbus A220-300 to its fleet, starting from next year. This move is part of the airline’s strategy to modernize and expand its operations.

Request for proposals launched

The airline has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to lease up to two A220-300 aircraft, which are part of the CSeries family of single-aisle planes. The RFP seeks operational leasing agreements with a duration of 6 to 12 years.

Delivery timeline and aircraft requirements

The first A220-300 is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2027, with a second unit arriving in the first quarter of 2028. One of the aircraft will replace an existing A320 in the fleet.

Operational and maintenance conditions

Maldivian specifies that the aircraft must be delivered in the airline’s livery and meet certain maintenance thresholds—such as 24 months, 5,000 flight hours, or 3,000 cycles—without major maintenance deadlines during a defined period.

Support for training and staff

The airline also requires support in training crews, maintenance personnel, and staff involved in flight preparation to ensure smooth integration of the new aircraft into its operations.

Deadline for proposals set

The deadline for submitting proposals is October 28, 2026, at 23:59 local time in Malé, the capital of the Maldives.

Current fleet composition

Maldivian currently operates a fleet of approximately ten aircraft, including an A330-200, an A320, and several ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600 models.
