A 16-year-old girl has died after being struck by a taxi near her private school in north London during her morning commute. Emergency services were called to North Road in Highgate around 8:11 a.m. on Thursday following reports of a collision, according to the London Ambulance Service. Metropolitan Police officers, along with paramedics, firefighters, and an air ambulance, arrived at the scene quickly. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the teenager was pronounced dead at the location. The driver of the taxi, a 68-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Police have maintained cordons around the area and are urging the public to avoid Highgate while the investigation continues. Addison Lee, the private hire company that owns the taxi involved, confirmed that the vehicle was part of its fleet. A company spokesperson said, "Our thoughts are with her family and all those affected at this incredibly difficult time," and added that the police are leading the response and investigation. The girl was a Year 12 student at Highgate School, one of London’s well-known private institutions. The school confirmed that the student was en route to school when the incident occurred. In a statement, a school spokesperson said, "This incredibly distressing news has come as a terrible shock to everyone at Highgate," and emphasized that the family is receiving support from specialist police officers. The school has expressed deep sadness over the loss and said it will continue to support the family, staff, and students during this difficult time.
