Blizzard Entertainment has released a new original campaign for Warcraft III, titled Forsaken Kingdom, more than 20 years after the original game was first released in 2002 and its expansion The Frozen Throne in 2003. The campaign is available for 30€ to owners of Warcraft III: Reforged, a remastered version of the original game. The new content blends real-time strategy (RTS) gameplay with elements of a role-playing game (RPG). It includes a prologue called The Last Days of Lordaeron, which features four missions set in the style of the original game, and a main campaign with a semi-open world design inspired by the Rexxar campaign. The story follows the Forsaken, a faction of undead characters, after the fall of the city of Lordaeron, with Sylvanas Windrunner, their leader, and the construction of the Undercity as background elements. Iconic locations such as Stratholme are also included. The update introduces a more advanced RPG system, including features such as an inventory system, equipment upgrades, heroic arsenals, and talent trees that allow players to customize their characters. A new neutral hero, the Forsaken paladin, is also added, who can heal allies or control the battlefield. Additionally, the number of units that can be controlled at the same time has increased from 12 to 24, offering more strategic depth in battles. Warcraft III: Reforged also receives a graphical upgrade through the Definitive Edition, which aims to preserve the original game’s visual style while improving rendering quality. This includes more detailed terrain, dynamic lighting, refined fog effects, and day/night cycles. The game's tools are integrated into the world editor, allowing the community to continue creating new content and maps. However, the new version of the game does not include French dubbing, which may affect the experience for French-speaking players. Additionally, the modern version requires a permanent internet connection via Battle.net and no longer supports offline play or local multiplayer. A Legacy client is still available for those who prefer to play offline or use local network play, but it has a more limited scope compared to the updated version.
