Montigny-le-Bretonneux is organizing a range of activities throughout October to raise awareness about breast cancer as part of the annual October Rose campaign. The initiative includes sports events, prevention workshops, and community-based efforts led by the local government and the CCAS (Centre Communal d’Action Sociale). Activities range from canoe-kayak sessions to hands-on workshops and creative projects aimed at supporting women affected by the disease. Breast cancer remains the leading cause of death among women in many regions, making awareness and early detection crucial. Sports events are a central part of the campaign. A solidarity challenge is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at the Saint-Quentin space, offering two routes: 4 kilometers and 10 kilometers. The registration fee is 2 euros, with all proceeds going to the League Against Cancer. On the same day, a free canoe-kayak initiation will take place at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines leisure island. Organized with the CCAS and the Canoekayak Trappes Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines association, the event will offer 30-minute sessions between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. It is open to people aged 10 and older, including beginners, with equipment and supervision provided by trained professionals. Prevention and education are also key components of the campaign. An autopalpation workshop, which teaches participants how to perform self-examinations of the breasts, is planned for Thursday, October 8, at the City Hall. Organized in partnership with the League Against Cancer, the session will include information on screening and early detection. Three time slots are available: 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 2 p.m., and reservations are required. Another initiative invites residents to create heart-shaped cushions, which will be donated to women affected by breast cancer. These handmade items will be collected throughout October at the CCAS and given to the "Les Kombatives" association, which supports women battling the disease. Local businesses are also getting involved in the campaign. Some shops are offering special products, decorating their windows, and displaying urns as part of the efforts. All funds collected through these activities will be donated to the League Against Cancer. This community-wide approach highlights the importance of collective action in supporting those affected by breast cancer and promoting awareness.
