Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave announced in 2025

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the latest entry in the Fire Emblem tactical RPG series, was announced in 2025 and quickly gained attention for its place in the chronology of the previous success Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The game is set on the continent of Dagda, a location distinct from the Fódlan of Three Houses.

Gameplay length and structure

It is described as the longest Fire Emblem title to date, with approximately 100 hours of gameplay for part one and around 160 hours for completionists. The game features four main routes—Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda—each with its own story and objectives. After completing these routes, players progress to the second part of the game, which is less complex than the first.

Setting and storyline

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave takes place several centuries before the events of Three Houses and centers on a great war caused by the demon god Balor. A group of resistors seeks to prevent the world’s destruction and calls upon Eshmel, blessed by the deity Sothis, to help them. Eshmel is transformed into a bird and must assist the four heroes in surviving an impending catastrophe. The game allows players to fully customize their avatar, including gender and name.

Gameplay criticism and features

The game’s structure has been criticized for being repetitive, as players must restart from the beginning after completing each route, with limited resources and the need to recruit the same characters again. However, once a route is completed, secondary quests are automatically unlocked for subsequent routes, reducing the overall redundancy. The game also features a robust system for character development, including class progression, special abilities, and the use of divine blessings to alter battle outcomes.

Development team and voice actors

The game is developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, with Toshiyuki Kusakihara, the director of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, returning as director. The character design is handled by Chinatsu Kurahana, and Masahiro Higuchi serves as producer. Voice actors include Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Marina Inoue for Eshmel, Daiki Yamashita for Cai, and Satoshi Hino for Dietrich. Additional voice actors include Minami Takayama, Mariya Ise, Hiroki Yasumoto, Shin-ichiro Miki, Kaede Hondo, and Arisa Ogasawara.

Planned DLC and sales success

A planned DLC expansion, referred to as a "pass of extension," will offer new content in three waves. The first wave includes additional weapons linked to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the second introduces three deities from the temples of Dagsion, and the third, scheduled for 2027, will add new playable characters and classes, including Talimun, Anatolia, Bertrand, and Orchel. The game has already sold over 100,000 copies in Japan and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
