Shipt, the same-day delivery service owned by Target, has introduced a new AI-powered shopping assistant called "Ask Shipt." This tool lets customers input prompts, which are then turned into personalized, ready-to-buy grocery carts. For example, a user could ask the assistant to build a cart for a weekend gathering or a weeknight meal, and the AI would generate a list of items tailored to the request. The launch of Ask Shipt comes as other delivery platforms also roll out similar AI-driven shopping assistants, signaling a growing trend in the grocery delivery industry. Instacart, a major competitor, recently introduced its own AI assistant called Clementine, which functions in a similar way. Uber Eats and DoorDash have also launched AI tools this year that help users create shopping lists or meal plans based on their preferences and needs. These tools are designed to make online grocery shopping faster and more convenient by reducing the need for manual list-making or browsing through multiple items. One of the standout features of Ask Shipt is its ability to recognize food items from photos. Users can upload a picture of a dish they’ve seen online or at a restaurant, and the assistant will identify the ingredients and add them to a cart. This feature is especially useful for those looking to recreate a meal or try new recipes without having to search for each item individually. Additionally, the AI can suggest meal ideas based on a user’s budget, such as a family dinner under $35, helping shoppers make more informed and cost-effective choices. The introduction of Ask Shipt aligns with Target’s broader efforts to integrate AI into its online shopping experience. Earlier this year, Target added AI-powered features like photo search, which lets users find products by uploading images, and personalized review summaries that help customers make better purchasing decisions. Ask Shipt is now available in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com, offering a more streamlined and intelligent way for customers to prepare their grocery orders.
