Cunard’s flagship ship, the Queen Mary 2, will undergo a major renovation to prepare for its summer sailings in 2027. Known as the world's only true ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2 regularly makes transatlantic crossings between Southampton, England, and New York. The ship will enter dry dock in Brest, France, on March 31, 2027, and is expected to return to service on May 9, 2027. This extensive refurbishment aims to modernize the ship while preserving its historic charm and iconic status. The upgrades will include the addition of 31 new staterooms, with 16 of them being Cunard Princess Grill Suites and 15 being Britannia category staterooms. Current Grill Suites will also be refreshed, featuring new furnishings, finishes, and bathrooms designed with spa-inspired aesthetics. The Queen’s Grill and Princess Grill restaurants will be redesigned, and more outdoor deck space will be added. The ship’s dog kennels will also be renovated, with increased capacity, a new owners’ lounge, and an expanded outdoor area for walking pets. The Mareel Wellness & Beauty spa will be updated, and a new selection of luxury stores will open on board, offering passengers more shopping options. The new design elements will draw inspiration from Hollywood's golden age and British traditions, giving the ship’s interiors a fresh look while keeping its recognizable identity intact. Illuminations, the largest planetarium at sea, will receive a major digital upgrade, enhancing the experience for guests. The ship’s popular entertainment options, such as West End and Broadway-style productions in its theatre and guest speaker events, will remain available after the renovations, ensuring that the Queen Mary 2 continues to offer a rich cultural experience. Katie McAlister, president of Cunard, emphasized that the refurbishment represents a significant investment in the Queen Mary 2. She highlighted the company’s deep respect for the ship’s heritage, character, and the unique sense of occasion it provides. The project aims to enhance the ship’s features without altering the elements that guests love, ensuring that the Queen Mary 2 remains a luxurious and iconic vessel for years to come.
