European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald recently led a scouting trip to Adare Manor, the venue for the 2025 Ryder Cup, where he and 16 players evaluated the course. The trip included several potential candidates for the 2027 Ryder Cup, such as Spanish golfers Eugenio Chacarra and Angel Ayora, as well as Alex Fitzpatrick and Kristoffer Reitan. Fitzpatrick, the younger brother of 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, and Reitan, who has secured a PGA Tour victory this season, were both invited to participate in the trip. The group also featured most of Team Europe’s confirmed 2025 Ryder Cup players, including Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, Bob MacIntyre, Justin Rose, and Sepp Straka, as well as the elder Fitzpatrick. However, notable players like Rory McIlroy, Aaron Rai—who won the 2026 PGA Championship—and Rasmus Hojgaard were not present. Donald, who is entering his third cycle as European captain, said he would likely bring more potential Ryder Cup hopefuls to join him during this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. This event, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the European Tour, provides an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and gain the captain’s attention. During the Irish Open, Donald played alongside Alex Fitzpatrick and Tom McKibbin, observing their performance closely. This hands-on approach allows the captain to assess players not only in practice settings but also under tournament conditions. Such evaluations are crucial in the selection process for the Ryder Cup, where team dynamics and individual performance play a significant role. The scouting trip and upcoming tournament highlight the importance of preparation and player selection for the 2025 Ryder Cup. By engaging with both current and potential future players, Donald aims to build a strong, cohesive team that can compete effectively at Adare Manor. This strategy ensures that the European team remains competitive and well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
