Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, revealed that Square Enix has already planned two expansions for the upcoming role-playing game, even though the game itself has not yet been released. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, on platforms including PS5, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Since a Sony State of Play event in June, it has been confirmed that the game will be extended with two story-focused expansions: one centered around the character Sephiroth and the other featuring Vincent Valentine and the Turks. These expansions are expected to be released sequentially between winter 2027 and spring 2028. Some critics have expressed disappointment, arguing that Square Enix could have included these story elements in the base game without extra cost. However, Hamaguchi clarified in an interview with RPG Site on September 10 that these DLCs do not yet exist. On September 26, he shared on his X account that the decision to create the expansions was inspired by the strong enthusiasm of fans. At this point, the two DLCs for Final Fantasy VII Revelation are still in the planning stages and have not begun production. Hamaguchi emphasized that the development team is currently focused entirely on the main game, which is their top priority. "We have only recently decided to offer these two story DLCs for Revelation," he said. "Everything beyond that is not part of our plans at the moment." He also assured players that the DLCs are not required to fully enjoy the main game's story. At DualShockers, he explained, "You do not need the DLCs to fully enjoy the story we are trying to tell here. These DLCs are really meant to learn more about the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth. After completing them, players may see these characters in a different light, but the intention has never been to rewrite the ending or lead people to perceive it differently." The two expansions will be included in an expansion pass that is already part of the Premium and Premium Plus editions of the game, which cost at least 20 euros more than the standard version. The pass may be sold separately after the game's release, but Square Enix has not yet announced the price for the pass if purchased alone.
