Two cannabis growers have been jailed after police discovered plants worth over £1.3 million hidden inside a former BHS store in Slough. Ajet Begu, 40, and Aryan Turya, 27, were arrested when police raided the disused store on High Street. The building had been converted into a secret cannabis grow operation, with more than 1,700 plants found at various stages of growth. The operation was uncovered by neighbourhood policing teams who identified the building as a drug factory. The plants, if processed, could have yielded around 150 kg of cannabis, with a street value of approximately £1.28 million or £525,000 in wholesale markets, according to a drug expert. Detective Constable George Randell, who led the investigation, described the discovery as "an incredible sight" for his colleagues. The factory was spread across two floors, hidden behind the appearance of an abandoned store. The police intervention disrupted the illegal operation and had a significant impact on cannabis production and supply in Slough and surrounding areas. However, officers continue to investigate potential links between the grow operation and larger criminal networks. Begu and Turya both pleaded guilty to producing cannabis, a class B controlled drug, at Reading Magistrates' Court. They were sentenced to 14 months in prison at Reading Crown Court on August 21. Begu is from Palmers Green, London, while Turya, who has no fixed abode, is believed to live in London. This case follows another high-profile drug-related arrest in Slough. Amjad Ali, 50, a Royal Mail worker, was caught after making over £1.2 million by diverting parcels believed to contain cannabis to himself. Police raided Ali’s home and a storage facility he used to run his drug business, uncovering evidence of his illegal activities.
