Xiaomi recently showcased the capabilities of its new extended-range SUV, the Sky Nomad N90 Max, by driving 1,230 kilometers between Shanghai and Beijing without recharging or refueling. The journey included four passengers, 50 kilograms of luggage, and air conditioning set to 24 degrees Celsius. The driver used eco mode, prioritizing electric power with the help of the vehicle’s Hyper Autonomous Driving system. Tire pressure was set to 2.9 bar, and energy recovery was optimized at 80% efficiency. The average highway speed was 104 kilometers per hour, and in pure electric mode, the SUV managed 323.6 kilometers on a single charge, consuming 19.7 kWh per 100 kilometers. At the end of the trip, the car still had 54 kilometers of range left, giving it a total endurance of about 1,284 kilometers. Xiaomi officially claims a 464-kilometer range in electric mode and a total endurance of 1,705 kilometers under the Chinese CLTC standard. However, this standard is generally seen as more favorable to manufacturers than the European WLTP standard. The test achieved 69.7% of the announced electric range and 75.3% of the total endurance, showing that real-world performance is slightly lower than the official figures. The Sky Nomad N90 Max is an extended-range vehicle that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Dongan, a subsidiary of Changan, with a 76 kWh NMC battery from CALB. The engine functions only as a generator, not directly powering the wheels. Two electric motors provide a combined 310 kW (416 horsepower), allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 kilometers per hour. The vehicle is 5.28 meters long, with a 3.08-meter wheelbase, and offers seven seats—two in the front, two in the middle, and three in the back. It includes a five-level pneumatic suspension and can charge from 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes. The Sky Nomad N90 Max is now available for pre-sale in China at 299,900 yuan (around 36,000 euros), with pre-orders opening on July 30, 2026, and a planned launch in September. However, a European release is expected to be significantly more expensive due to customs duties imposed by the European Union.
