The Xiaomi Sky Nomad N70, priced at 209,900 yuan (approximately 27,000 euros), is significantly cheaper than the Tesla Model Y, which costs around 263,500 yuan (about 34,000 euros). The Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi, plans to enter the European market starting in 2027, with Germany as its initial target. Although Xiaomi Auto has launched an international website, no specific models for Europe have yet been officially confirmed. The Sky Nomad N70 is similar in size to popular European SUVs like the Volvo XC90, but its width might present challenges in some urban areas where parking space is limited. The Sky Nomad N70 uses range-extending technology, a system that combines an electric motor with a small gasoline engine to recharge the battery when needed. This approach is similar to the Leapmotor C10 REEV, which is already available in Europe. The Max version of the Sky Nomad N70 claims a range of 414 kilometers according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a standard used in Europe to measure fuel economy and emissions. However, the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standard, which will take effect in late 2026, may require modifications to the vehicle’s emissions, fuel efficiency, and battery performance to meet stricter regulations. To prepare for the European market, Xiaomi has established an automotive research and design center in Munich, Germany. This facility will help the company adapt its vehicles to meet European requirements. However, the cost of the Sky Nomad N70 may increase in Europe due to import taxes on electric vehicles from China, including those with range-extending technology. Currently, Xiaomi only produces its vehicles in China and has not announced plans to build manufacturing plants in Europe. In September 2026, Xiaomi signed agreements with eight German automotive groups to prepare for its European debut, though no specific models have been confirmed yet. The SU7 and YU7 models are expected to be among the first to launch in Europe, with the GT version of the SU7 developed specifically with European engineers. Despite these preparations, the Sky Nomad N70 may still face challenges related to pricing and the regulatory process of homologation, which is necessary for a vehicle to be legally sold in the European Union.
