On Friday, around 6 PM, lifeguards from the SNSM (Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer) in Propriano responded to an emergency involving four young adults in their twenties who were struggling in the water near Lido Beach, about 100 meters from the rescue center. The alert came directly from witnesses who saw the group in distress at sea. At the time, the weather was particularly challenging, with strong swells and waves reaching up to 2.50 meters. The powerful currents were carrying the four individuals toward rocky outcrops 150 meters offshore, which made the situation especially dangerous. The SNSM lifeguards quickly coordinated with the CROSS Méditerranée, a regional rescue coordination center, and two lifeguards from the SNSM 17-07 "CYRNOS" boat rushed to the scene to assist. At the same time, the CROSS Méditerranée alerted a civil security helicopter equipped with firefighter divers, while the CODIS of Corse-du-Sud, a local emergency response organization, sent a rescue and victim assistance vehicle to the area. The rescue operation was complicated by the rough sea conditions and the proximity to the rocks, requiring the lifeguards to work under difficult circumstances. After about fifteen minutes of intense effort, five SNSM rescuers successfully brought the four individuals back to the beach. Despite the challenging conditions, the rescuers managed to ensure the safety of all involved. The four victims were visibly shaken and immediately received first aid from the rescuers and firefighters on site. One of them was taken to the Sartène hospital for further evaluation, while the other three were unharmed and did not require hospital treatment. The incident highlights the importance of swift response and the risks associated with swimming in rough coastal waters.
