Digital pre-orders for GTA VI reach $594 million

According to estimates from Sensor Tower, relayed by Wccftech, Grand Theft Auto VI has generated approximately $594 million through digital pre-orders as of October 13. These figures highlight the immense popularity of the upcoming game, which is set to release on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.

PlayStation dominates digital pre-orders

The PlayStation 5 accounted for nearly three out of every four pre-orders, with 4.51 million of the estimated 6.08 million digital pre-orders going to PlayStation. This represents about $441 million in value, compared to 1.57 million Xbox pre-orders worth $153 million.

Physical pre-orders may be limited in Europe

In Italy, specialized stores Game Life (formerly Gamestop) are warning customers that GTA 6 may not be available for sale on November 12 without a prior reservation. A similar situation is likely in France, indicating potential challenges in securing physical copies of the game.

Sensor Tower data excludes physical sales

The data from Sensor Tower only account for digital sales on PlayStation and Xbox, and do not include physical pre-orders. These are boxes containing a code to download the game and will be available in stores on November 12.

Rockstar Games has not confirmed the figures

Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed these figures, which remain estimates from Sensor Tower. The gap between PlayStation and Xbox is expected to increase further when considering the "physical" version of GTA 6.

Franchise's history with PlayStation

The historical attachment of the franchise to PlayStation can be attributed to the series' long-standing association with Sony's consoles, starting from GTA III on PS2 up to GTA V. Rockstar Games continues this closeness in its communication, regularly displaying the mention "Plays best on PlayStation" on its promotional posters.

New trailer sparks anticipation

The recent launch trailer, revealed on October 15, has reignited players' anticipation with new sequences featuring Jason and Lucia, without however revealing true gameplay mechanics. The promotional efforts have intensified in recent weeks, maintaining a frenzy around the title, as every new image is scrutinized by millions of fans.

November will be emotional for players

November will be particularly emotional for players, marked by the launch of Ocarina of Time, a beloved title in the Nintendo franchise that has generated lasting nostalgia among gamers.
