A Nevada man has been charged with murder after killing his girlfriend and her two children, according to local police. Juan Carlos Orona, 29, turned himself in to authorities around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in connection with the case. When officers arrived at an address in Las Vegas provided by Orona, they found the bodies of an adult woman, a teenage girl, and a young boy under 10 years old. All three had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
According to an arrest report obtained by local news station KLAS, Orona had been dating the victim, Nohani Flores-Osuna, for three to six months and was staying at her apartment. Orona told police he confronted Flores-Osuna after seeing her car near that of her ex-boyfriend, referred to only as "Henry" in the report. Orona claimed he accused her of infidelity with Henry and said she admitted to having a sexual relationship with him, even stating that Henry was "better in bed than Juan." The report notes that after hearing this, Orona said he "blacked out" and later found himself holding a Glock 9MM handgun in the bathroom, with the bodies of Flores-Osuna and her children on the floor.
Orona’s father drove him to the police station, and the suspect reportedly could not remember how the shooting occurred. Police have not explained how Orona suffered a "superficial" gunshot wound, but he was treated at a hospital and released. Orona has been charged with three counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and ten counts of discharging a gun into an occupied structure. Lieutenant Robert Price of the Metropolitan Police Department told reporters that domestic violence is a leading cause of homicide and urged anyone experiencing such issues to seek help. "This is just a very tragic, tragic situation," Price said.
Orona is scheduled to appear in court on September 9. The Independent has reached out to the Clark County Coroner’s Office for further details, but no additional information has been released at this time.
