British Airways is planning a major upgrade to its operations at London-Heathrow Airport, focusing on improving the experience for its premium passengers. The company announced a series of projects on October 5, including the opening of a new lounge at gates C of Terminal 5 by the end of 2028, the renovation of its arrival lounge in 2027, and the launch of a dedicated First class check-in area at Terminal 3 this winter. These upgrades are part of a broader plan to revamp all of its lounges at Heathrow over the coming years, which British Airways describes as one of its most significant investments in infrastructure.
The most ambitious of these projects is the development of the T5C satellite lounge, which will be accessible from gates C in Terminal 5. Currently, eligible passengers must use lounges in T5A or T5B, which are connected by an underground train, before reaching their boarding gates. The new lounge at gates C will bring these services closer to passengers arriving on long-haul flights. The facility will offer unobstructed views of the airfield and terminal, as well as distinct spaces for dining, working, and relaxing, including showers before departure. Design elements will emphasize British craftsmanship, with wood, glass, textiles, and custom furnishings. A central feature will be a 17-meter bar, which the company claims will be among the longest in airport lounges globally. The exact size and capacity of the lounge have not been disclosed.
In addition to the main lounge, a separate Concorde space will cater specifically to first-class passengers, offering private concierge services, more refined dining, and increased privacy. The main lounge will be open to business class passengers and members of the British Airways Club with Silver status or higher. Before the new lounge opens, British Airways will renovate its arrival lounge at Terminal 5, beginning in early 2027 and reopening by the end of the same year. This will be the first arrival lounge developed under the company's new design concept, featuring a café, food counter, expanded dining areas, rest zones, and workstations. The lounge will include 59 showers, high-end shower suites, and spaces for changing and preparing. Club World passengers and first-class travelers will have access to a Concorde Arrivals area with private cabins and dedicated dining spaces in the company's signature color scheme.
At Terminal 3, British Airways and American Airlines will open a new First class check-in area this winter. The design will incorporate dark red tones inspired by the First Wing of Terminal 5, aiming to create a consistent look across Heathrow’s check-in areas. Access will not be limited to first-class passengers; Gold and higher-status members of the British Airways Club, as well as equivalent members from American Airlines, will also be eligible. This check-in area is distinct from the lounge projects at Terminal 5. Heathrow is continuing a transformation that began elsewhere, with similar lounge concepts introduced in Miami and Dubai as part of British Airways’ 7 billion pound transformation program. Renovations are also underway in Boston and Newark, with Geneva and San Francisco expected to follow in 2027. In parallel, British Airways is renoving the cabins of its Airbus A380 aircraft, aiming to unify the passenger experience on the ground and in the air. At Heathrow, this will be implemented gradually, with full integration expected by the end of 2028.
