British Airways has announced a major cabin reconfiguration for its Airbus A380 aircraft, with the new layouts unveiled on October 5. The changes are similar to those introduced across the rest of its fleet but have been adapted to the larger size of the A380. The updates are expected to be implemented "in the coming months." Two of the airline’s Super Jumbos, G-XLEC and G-XLEG, are currently being built in Manila. The reconfiguration will reduce the total number of seats on British Airways' A380s from 469 to 417, with a stronger emphasis on premium seating. The new layout includes twelve First class suites, 106 business class suites, 84 premium economy seats, and 215 economy class seats. This shift significantly increases the number of premium economy and business class seats at the expense of economy class. British Airways emphasizes that its A380s will continue to offer the world’s largest business class, as they currently do. Sean Doyle, CEO of British Airways, called this a major milestone for the airline and its A380 fleet, noting that it represents one of the most significant transformations undertaken on an aircraft. The company has reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and modernized seats in every cabin, with a focus on increased comfort and an enhanced overall experience. The investment includes interior redesign, modernization of catering, new equipment, and updated service offerings. Economy class passengers will benefit from wider seats, larger screens, improved bedding, including new pillows with better comfort and support, and softer blankets. Premium economy passengers will see improved comfort with larger screens, new bedding, new pillows, and a new comfort kit. The business class seat on the A380 will feature an updated version of the Club Suite, with a redesigned look, more storage space, improved functionality, and new equipment. The 106 business class seats will now occupy the entire upper deck, a change from the current configuration where business class is spread across both decks. The new First class configuration has two fewer seats compared to the current setup but offers "exceptional comfort and intimacy," evoking the ambiance of a luxury hotel. The middle suites include a retractable partition that allows the creation of a shared lounge for passengers traveling together, as well as retractable tables for sharing meals. Each suite will also have an integrated minibar. The Swaine comfort kit, inspired by the suitcases of the first air travelers, will offer a range of Wildsmith products, while the bedding will consist of a luxury mattress, a light cotton duvet, and a new pillow.
