Netflix is adapting Icebreaker, a sports romance novel by Hannah Grace, into a series. The book is the first in the Maple Hills saga, which was published in France by BMR in 2023. The novel was translated into French by Madeleine Petit and follows the story of an artistic skater and the captain of a university ice hockey team who are forced to share the same ice rink. The novel has sold nearly five million copies worldwide and is available in 24 languages. In France alone, it has sold 128,283 copies, according to Edistat. The original English version, published by Simon & Schuster, has sold 20,860 copies in France. The Maple Hills series currently consists of three volumes: Icebreaker, Wildfire, and Daydream. Each book focuses on different couples but is set within the same campus and ice hockey team. The series will be created and produced by Jade Halley Bartlett, with Amanda Lasher serving as showrunner. Hannah Grace is also involved as an executive producer, alongside Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre for Unwell Productions. The cast includes Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos, who will portray Anastasia "Stassie" Allen and Nate Hawkins, respectively. Other cast members are Gabriel Tierney, Auliʻi Cravalho, Peter Berry, Chaneil Kular, Devin Craig, and Aidan Shaw. The novel's popularity has likely contributed to Netflix's decision to adapt it for a wider audience. While the streaming platform has not yet announced a specific release date or the number of episodes for the series, fans of the book are eagerly awaiting more details. The series is expected to bring the romantic and athletic elements of the original story to life on screen, potentially attracting both existing readers and new viewers. The adaptation of Icebreaker marks another step in Netflix's strategy to expand its content library with original and adapted series based on popular books. As the production moves forward, more information about the series' release and production schedule is expected to be shared with the public.
