Construction begins on T7 tram extension

In Juvisy-sur-Orge, construction work for the extension of the T7 tram has been changing the layout of the RN7 national road since October 26. This initial phase is expected to last until early December, with traffic continuing in both directions and new routes for local residents.

Work zones expand along RN7

The construction site is spreading across the center and the eastern part of the RN7, between the Observatory intersection and Alexandre-Dumas Street. Work is conducted in stages from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., as outlined in a notice from Île-de-France Mobilités published on October 23. This schedule aims to keep traffic moving along a key road that connects Juvisy to neighboring areas.

Initial construction tasks underway

The first tasks include marking construction sites, installing noise barriers, and setting up ground markings. These preparations are for the future tramway, which will link Juvisy station to Athis-Mons. Île-de-France Mobilités plans to provide more details about the upcoming phases of the project soon.

Traffic changes and temporary routes

On the RN7, traffic is still possible in both directions, but lanes are being rearranged around the construction. Drivers must follow temporary signs instead of their usual routes, especially near the Observatory intersection.

New lane for local access

A contraflow lane has been created on the eastern side to serve homes, shops, and buses. This lane can only be accessed from the Observatory intersection, which is essential for drivers needing to reach addresses near the construction site. Bus stops are expected to remain in operation during this first phase.

Pedestrian access remains open

Pedestrians can continue using the RN7, but their pathways have been altered. Entrances to homes, shops, and parking lots remain accessible. Access to the Ducastel hall and the park via the pedestrian bridge is also maintained, as is the access to the park from the RN7.

Impact on local travel

These changes affect daily activities such as deliveries, shopping trips, walking, and public transport transfers. The layout of the lanes may change as construction progresses; the current schedule covers work from October 26 through early December 2026.

T7 tram extension details

The T7 tram extension is currently limited to Athis-Mons Porte de l'Essonne. The project includes an additional 3.7 kilometers of track and six new stations across Athis-Mons, Paray-Vieille-Poste, and Juvisy-sur-Orge. Eventually, the tram is expected to reach the Juvisy exchange hub, which connects to the RER C and D lines.

Challenges at the Observatory site

The Observatory area is one of the most complex parts of the project, requiring the construction of an underground station and structures beneath the Ducastel and City Hall parks. Civil engineering work in Juvisy is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with the current setup on the RN7 serving as a preparatory step.

City center affected by multiple projects

The tram construction also impacts the city center. Part of the Estienne-d'Orves Avenue is closed due to sanitation work that began on September 28 and will continue until mid-December. Residents passing through construction zones must navigate different traffic arrangements depending on the street.
