T1 tram extension starts new phase

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the preparatory work for extending the T1 tram in Rueil-Malmaison entered a new phase. The installation of potable water pipes on Napoleon-Bonaparte Avenue is progressing toward Marcel-Pourtout Boulevard, with traffic limited to one lane per direction for about six weeks, while access to schools and residences remains open.

Relocation of underground networks

This work is part of the relocation of underground utility networks required before building the future tram platform. The city of Rueil-Malmaison provided updated information on October 23, outlining the impacts on drivers, residents, merchants, and bus users. The main affected areas are Napoleon-Bonaparte Avenue and Paul-Doumer Avenue, near Hospital-Stell Boulevard.

First construction site underway

Since October 13, a construction site has been active on Napoleon-Bonaparte Avenue, from numbers 266 to 286. One lane of traffic is maintained in each direction, and parking on the even-numbered side has been temporarily removed. Access to Marcel-Pourtout Boulevard remains possible.

Pipe laying continues

Starting October 27, the laying of water pipes will continue from number 266 on Napoleon-Bonaparte Avenue toward Marcel-Pourtout Boulevard. The work is expected to last about six weeks. The site is near two schools, and specific signage will be placed to guide access to the Malmaison schools, while access for residents and deliveries is maintained.

Next phase planned

After this phase, the pipes will cross Marcel-Pourtout Boulevard, a task expected to take about three weeks. This will be done on half the road to keep traffic moving. The exact dates will depend on the progress of the current work.

Work on Paul-Doumer Avenue

The second affected area is along Paul-Doumer Avenue, between Maurepas Street and the tunnel, extending toward Hospital-Stell Boulevard. The city plans about seven weeks of work on this avenue, with one lane open in each direction. Access to Albert I Avenue must be preserved.

Detour for buses

A specific intervention at Maurepas Street will temporarily neutralize a lane for about two weeks. The city has announced a detour for buses traveling from the city center to the RER station. Travelers should check their line details before traveling, as the communication does not specify the affected line numbers or exact dates.

Access maintained for key locations

Access to the André-Malraux Theatre, shops, and hotels will remain open. Entry to the Indigo parking lot will be restricted to Gué Street. On Hospital-Stell Boulevard, the continuation of work is estimated to last four weeks, with traffic maintained and some pedestrian crossings temporarily relocated.

Water network work by Sénéo

The installation of the potable water network is being handled by Sénéo. Île-de-France Mobilités confirmed on October 20 that new pipes will be installed on Napoleon-Bonaparte Avenue and Paul-Doumer Avenue, replacing existing pipes located in the middle of the road. This stage prepares for the tramway’s infrastructure but does not yet involve track construction.

T1 extension project details

The T1 tram extension aims to connect Petit-Colombes to the Château de Malmaison, passing through Nanterre and Rueil-Malmaison. The project includes 15 new stations over 7.5 kilometers, with connections to Nanterre-Université via the RER A and line L, and to the future line 15 station at Place de la Boule.
