Renault is preparing to enhance its electric Kangoo model with notable upgrades ahead of its redesigned version launching in early 2027. The company plans to replace the current 45 kWh NMC battery with a more powerful 52 kWh NMC battery, similar to the one used in the Renault R5. This change is expected to increase the vehicle's range from 301 km to 354 km for the short utility version, improving its usefulness, especially in colder weather when battery efficiency can drop.
The maximum DC charging power has also been increased from 80 to 100 kW, allowing the Kangoo to charge from 15 to 80% in just 30 minutes—down from 40 minutes previously. A 30-minute charge now provides up to 240 km of range, compared to 179 km before. For AC charging, the standard remains at 11 kW, but a 22 kW option is available. The vehicle also includes V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality, which allows users to power compatible electrical devices outside the car using stored energy.
Renault is also updating the motor options. The previous 90 kW (120 hp, 245 Nm) motor will be replaced by two new options: a 100 kW (135 hp, 270 Nm) motor and an 115 kW (155 hp, 300 Nm) motor. Each motor has driving modes tailored to its performance. The 135 hp version includes Eco and Normal modes, while the 155 hp version adds a "Perfo" mode, which is especially useful when the vehicle is carrying a heavy load.
New features include four levels of regenerative braking—up from three—and steering wheel paddles. The traditional gear lever is being replaced by an "e-shifter" located on the dashboard. The new EV Route Planner helps drivers plan their trips, and battery pre-conditioning allows the battery to be prepared before charging, either automatically through the multimedia system or manually via the dashboard. The touchscreen has been upgraded from 8 to 10 inches and now uses the Open R Link system, which comes in two configurations. The first includes smartphone replication (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), while the second adds integrated navigation and access to additional apps. HERE mapping has replaced the previous TomTom solution. Connectivity has improved with more USB-C ports, and the wireless smartphone charger has been upgraded to a magnetic and ventilated version, increasing its power from 15 to 25 W and incorporating the Magsafe function.
Prices for the updated electric Kangoo will be announced in a few weeks. Fleet professionals can test drive the vehicle through the Pro Testing Center. Chargemap Business helps manage fleet charging at scale, and Borne de Recharge quote assists in installing charging stations.
