Renault has announced updates for its Renault 4 electric vehicle, now more than a year and a half after its launch. The improvements include new features and a slight increase in driving range. A new base model with an LFP battery has been officially introduced. The R4 has received minor aerodynamic upgrades, such as underbody fairings and new mirrors, which help reduce energy consumption and improve range. With the NMC 40 kWh battery and a 120 hp motor, the official range increases from 308 to 310 kilometers. For the NMC 52 kWh battery paired with a 150 hp motor, the range rises from 409 to 415 kilometers. The convertible version, called Plein Sud, sees an increase from 392 to 400 kilometers. A version with a significantly greater range will not be available until 2027.
A base model with an LFP battery will also be available, and it includes a new variant called Jogging. This variant uses an 80 kW (110 hp) motor derived from the Twingo electric and an LFP battery with a 36.5 kWh usable capacity. The announced range for this variant is 305 kilometers. It features a 6.6 kW AC charger (instead of the 11 kW bidirectional charger) and offers fast DC 80 kW charging, which allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. Standard features include a manual air conditioner, a 7-inch instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, or a rearview camera.
The top-of-the-line Roland Garros version, announced during the last Parisian tournament, is now part of the range. It includes unique exterior elements such as shield stickers and wheel centers in Brun Terracotta. Inside, it features an unprecedented light gray and blue upholstery, with the tournament's embossed logo on the front seats. The gear shift lever tip is inspired by the grip of rackets, and the floor mats have a clay color. The Roland Garros version uses the large 52 kWh battery and is available in the Plein Sud convertible version. The starting price is 38,490 euros.
New features are available across all versions, including a manual battery preconditioning function accessible via the central screen, which optimizes charging times at fast charging stations. A charging completion notification is sent to the user via the My Renault smartphone app five minutes before the system predicts the end of charging or when the battery reaches the expected charge level. Driving assistance features have been enhanced with the predictive eco-driving assistant and the emergency stop assistant. The first identifies road changes such as turns and roundabouts to advise the driver to lift their foot when approaching them, thereby saving energy. The second complements the Active Driver Assist system by slowing the vehicle down to a stop on its lane (if possible) in case of driver inactivity.
The R4 now includes the Smart driving mode, replacing the Perso mode. This mode automatically manages transitions between different driving modes (Eco, Comfort, and Sport) based on the driver's style. It allows immediate access to the Sport mode's responsiveness when overtaking but also switches to the Eco mode to save energy when driving pace slows down, such as in urban areas. A new magnetic and ventilated inductive smartphone charger (standard "Qi2") has been introduced, offering better charging power (50% battery level recovered in one hour) without overheating. The electric tailgate has also been improved, now opening automatically when someone with an access and start card approaches the trunk, without the need for a foot gesture under the shield.
The price for the Roland Garros version with a 120 hp motor and a 40 kWh battery is 29,990 euros. The 150 hp version with a 52 kWh battery is priced at 33,490 euros, 35,490 euros, 37,490 euros, and 38,490 euros. The Plein Sud version adds 1,800 euros. The price of the Jogging variant is still not available.
