Saint-Jean-de-Luz invites residents to discuss coastal erosion solutions at Lafitenia beach. The event aims to shape infrastructure plans that respect local heritage and community needs.
Public consultation on coastal erosion
A public consultation event has been organized in Saint-Jean-de-Luz to discuss infrastructure developments on coastal areas at risk of erosion. The City of Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) invited residents to participate in a consultation on October 24, focusing on the Lafitenia beach, which is experiencing coastal erosion.Event details and purpose
The event, scheduled from 13:00 to 16:00, will take place near the circular parking lot of Lafitenia and allow citizens to share their "vision of the territory" with the project team and highlight "identified needs" based on their experience of the site. Jérôme Roteta, the municipal counselor for urban planning, development, and housing, stated that the goal is to listen to those who live and frequent the site in order to create an infrastructure that meets their needs and respects the exceptional heritage of the area.Broader coastal development project
This consultation is part of a broader coastal development project aimed at securing several areas affected by coastal erosion, including "5 campsites, 7 bars and restaurants, several residential areas, sections of road, parking areas, and a wastewater treatment plant." Two other beaches near the Lafitenia site are also affected by the work.Progress and costs at nearby beaches
The Senix beach has been under construction since September 1, with an estimated cost of 234,295 euros excluding tax. On the Erromardie beach, the work is completed, with the operation involving vegetation work and the reinforcement of a protective wall, costing 972,180 euros excluding tax.
