Saint-Jean-de-Luz begins major waterworks to upgrade its network, including a new wastewater plant and separating rainwater from sewage.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz starts water network projects
The city of Saint-Jean-de-Luz has begun two major projects on its water supply network, starting on Monday, November 2. These projects are part of a larger initiative to build a new wastewater treatment plant in the nearby area of Chibau.Wastewater pipeline upgrades planned
The first project involves taking over existing wastewater pipelines to send the flows to the new treatment plant. This includes installing new pipelines, replacing pumps and machinery, and expanding a pumping station to prevent pipeline saturation.Work locations and timeline
Construction will take place in several stages from November 2, 2026, until April 2027. Activities will occur north of Boulevard Adolphe-Thiers, around the Flots Bleus pumping station, and near the basin under the Flots Bleus parking. Additional work will start on Avenue Pellot between November 23 and the end of the project.Separating wastewater and rainwater
The second project focuses on separating wastewater and rainwater in the Lac neighborhood by laying new pipelines. Previously, these flows were mixed, which could lead to network saturation and discharges into the sea during heavy rain.Traffic and access changes
Vehicle access will be restricted between Avenue Pellot and the Flots Bleus pumping station, and parking will not be allowed in this area. In the Lac neighborhood, traffic will be closed between the lower part of Avenue Pellot and Rue Vauban, with alternative routes provided. Pedestrian and cyclist access will remain open throughout the projects.
