Startups are exploring the use of artificial intelligence to transform interior design, a field traditionally reliant on manual processes and specialized software. One such company is Rayon, a French startup that has developed a web-based drawing tool tailored for interior architects. Recently, Rayon announced it has raised 10 million euros in a Series A funding round, led by the French venture capital firm Partech. Additional support came from historical investors like Northzone, Foundamental, and Seedcamp. This brings the company's total funding to over 15.7 million euros, following a seed round of 4 million euros in September 2023 and a pre-seed round of 1.7 million euros in 2022.
Founded in 2021 by Bastien Dolla and Stanislas Chaillou, Rayon has built a real-time collaboration platform that allows interior architects to work on projects directly through a web browser. The platform integrates various design elements, including plans, styles, specifications, and summary tables, along with files such as PDFs, CAD documents, and images. This centralized system helps professionals design spaces like restaurants, hotels, boutiques, and office environments more efficiently. "Interior design requires an AI approach that is specific to it, and not a solution borrowed from other fields," says Stanislas Chaillou, co-founder and COO/CPO of Rayon. "We integrate our solution directly into the drawing process, while remaining connected to the AI tools that designers already use."
To date, Rayon claims that over 4 million drawings have been created on its platform. The company has attracted notable clients, including Virgin Atlantic for airport lounge designs, CityHub for internal feasibility studies, and Morning for creating collaborative spaces. With its latest funding, Rayon plans to expand its capabilities by introducing a full range of AI-powered features and transitioning from 2D to 3D design tools. The company currently employs around 40 people and is also developing a mobile application, a new presentation mode for real-time client interaction, and an enhanced library of design templates.
These advancements are expected to support Rayon's commercialization strategy and help it attract more interior architects looking for innovative design solutions. As AI continues to reshape various industries, Rayon is positioning itself as a leader in bringing cutting-edge technology into the world of interior design.
